Solar PV (photovoltaics)

Mainstream grant funding ended on 3rd February 2010 for electricity generating products such as Solar PV (photovoltaics), Wind Turbines and small-scale Hydro Electricity.

Solar PV (photovoltaics)Grants for these products have been replaced by Feed In Tariffs that pay for any electricity generated plus extra payments for surplus electricity supplied to the grid. Payments exist for 20 to 25 years after installation depending on the product.

Grants to assist with the up-front cost of Solar PV panels were replaced in April 2010 with Feed in Tariffs. FITs are payments made by energy suppliers for all electricity generated and for surplus electricity fed back into the grid. These tax free payments substantially reduce the time it takes to pay for your system. Installing Solar PV panels and claiming Feed in Tariffs are an extremely worthwhile investment. Solar Thermal (Hot Water)

Grants for heat generating products such as Solar Thermal and Ground & Air Source Heat Pumps ended on 24th May 2010.

Solar Thermal (Hot Water)They are scheduled to be replaced in April 2011 by Renewable Heat Incentives (RHIs) that will pay you for every kWh of heat generated. Payments are expected to exist for 20 to 25 years after installation depending on the product.

Grants for Solar Thermal panels are no longer available. They are due to be replaced by Renewable Heat Incentives from 1st April 2011.
